Glacier National Park - Day 1

(Scott) It’s Monday evening and we are sitting outside our camper enjoying the cool mountain air. It stays light here until about 10:30 in the evening, so we tend to stay out doing things later than usual without the diminishing sun to signal that the day is almost over. Today we got a late start and drove into Glacier National Park, which is the most beautiful place we have been to this summer so far. The combination of the mountains covered with trees, rocks and snow and the blue lakes is awesome!


Today we drove the “Going to the Sun” road today which took several hours and took us to the top of the park at Logan’s Pass. We did a short hike to a waterfall, then finished the day doing a 3 mile hike through snow fields and to a beautiful vista with numerous mountain goats which was overlooking an icy lake. We hiked thorough the snow fields rather than on a cleared path (which is what we expected) next to the snow fields. Elizabeth wore her new “Crocs” and I wore sandals, both very poor footwear choices for hiking through the snow. Elizabeth was so excited about being in the snow until she realized that it makes her feet very cold and wet then she rode the rest of the way in the backpack.
